Iowa’s helpline for quitting tobacco will no longer offer free nicotine patches and gum as of June 30th. Budget cuts have forced the Iowa Department of Public Health to focus mainly on the Quitline Iowa’s free counseling services. Counselors at Quitline help smokers understand the reasons for smoking and how to break habits that make it hard to quit. Since 2008, more 54 thousand Iowans have called 1-800-QUIT-NOW to work with quit coaches to develop personalized, long-term plans for quitting tobacco use. For additional information, visit quit line Iowa dot org, or call 1-800-QUIT-NOW.
