After sharing the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North title last year with Lone Tree, the Highland Huskies boys’ basketball team (17-3) claimed the championship outright this winter. The Huskies closed their league season with victories over Wapello (61-60) and Mediapolis (72-53) and finished winning 15 of their 16 conference games.

Over half of Highland’s offensive output has been produced by one family. Brothers Trent, Trey, and Zach Lasek have combined to score 646 of Highland’s 1,202 points. Zach Lasek has scored a team-best 284 points, an average of 14.9 points per game. He’s also the team leader with 133 rebounds and 33 blocked shots. Trent Lasek is the team’s second-leading scorer with 259 points, averaging 13.6 points per game. Trey Lasek ranks fifth on the team in scoring with 103 points scored.

Highland is the No. 1 seed from the north division in tonight’s Southeast Iowa Super Conference shootout. They will match up against the West Burlington Falcons (17-3) in the nightcap game at Southeastern Community College in West Burlington. Tate Snodgrass is West Burlington’s leading scorer and rebounder with 280 points and 99 rebounds. The game will tip off 15 minutes after the conclusion of the second place game between Lone Tree (16-4) and New London (16-3). The contest between the Lions and Tigers will begin at 6 p.m.
