WACO’s Cody Crawford (285) added another weekend tournament title to his resume Saturday. Crawford tallied two pins and a decision victory to win the 285-pound bracket in the annual WACO Warriors Invitational in Wayland

After a first round bye, Crawford pinned his way to the championship match. He earned a pinfall victory 46 seconds into his quarterfinal grapple against Mid-Prairie’s Tristan Novy. The semifinal round saw Crawford bring New London’s Austin Van Amerongen to his back 32 seconds into the second period. The championship dual went the full six minutes with Crawford claiming an 8-5 decision victory over West Burlington-Notre Dame-Danville’s Drake Fox.

Crawford also won the Tri-County Wrestling tournament championship on December 10. He was KCII’s Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week on December 14.

The WACO Warriors wrestling team (5-4) continues Southeast Iowa Super Conference wrestling today, hosting a league triangular against Lone Tree and Pekin. First matches are set for 6 p.m. in Wayland.
