In January, heavy snow slid off the roof of the Washington County Courthouse and crushed the metal entry way on the south side of the building; now in an effort to make the courthouse safer and more efficient, the Washington County Board of Supervisors is looking to replace the building’s old slate roof. The supervisors are seeking competitive quotes for the labor to remove the old slate tiles and install new composite roof tile that looks like slate that is created by Brava Roof Tile in Washington.
Chuck Doughty who works on the upkeep up the building said one benefit of having the composite tile is it’ll be easier to hire people to tuck point the brick at the top of the building, where before contractors were worried about sliding on the slate. With the composite tile, the colors can match the existing roof and it will have a 50-year warranty.
Due to the total project cost estimated at being over $100,000 the supervisors are seeking competitive quotes. The tiles alone are estimated to cost about $54,000. The supervisors are hoping to get the roof replaced and snow guards up before winter.
