The road to the Class 1A state baseball tournament runs through Riverside later this month. The Iowa High School Athletic Association released district brackets for Classes 1A and 2A this week and the Highland Huskies (15-6 overall) are the top seed in the Class 1A District 10 bracket. The other teams a part of the tournament are the Holy Trinity Catholic Crusaders (1-16 overall), the Lone Tree Lions (8-11 overall), the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves (4-10 overall), the New London Tigers (13-6 overall), the Danville Bears (5-18 overall), the Notre Dame Nikes (11-7 overall), and the Keota Eagles (7-9 overall).
The quarterfinal round of the tournament begins on July 12 with games in Riverside and New London. Lone Tree and Winfield-Mount Union square off in game one from Highland High School at 5 p.m. followed by Highland playing Holy Trinity Catholic at 7 p.m. The Notre Dame Nikes and the Keota Eagles will square off in game one from New London High School at 5 p.m. The Tigers and the Danville Bears will play in the nightcap at 7 p.m.
The four teams who advance will play in the semifinal round July 14 at Highland High School. The district championship is set for July 16 also at Highland High School.
