Dinner and a show will be available in downtown Washington featuring a local puppeteer. Monica Leo will be presenting a trilogy of pieces about her parents immigration from Europe to the United States just before World War II. The first part will use shadow puppets to tell about her father’s experiences in a concentration camp and his ability to stay hopeful.
She explains the second piece, titled German Eggheads in Rural Texas, is about her parents’ experience in rural Texas. And the third piece called Mutti’s Muscles is about her mother becoming a political activist and metal sculptor after her husband’s death.
The 45-minute program will be shown at Cafe Dodici in Washington and paired with a German-themed dinner on May 22nd and will be a fundraiser for the LET’s Center for the Healing and Creative Arts.
