They come in red, white and pink and can be seen in many homes and businesses throughout the winter months but do you know how to care for poinsettias? Horticulturists with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach provide some tips for caring for the festive plants. Check potting soil daily to see if the plant needs water; if the soil is dry to the touch then add water until it flows out the bottom of the pot. Also, keep the plant away from heat sources or cold drafts. Occasionally poinsettias will suddenly wilt and die, often it is due to root rot. This happens when plants are watered too frequently and the soil is kept saturated. For more tips click here.
