Shots were fired in Riverside when authorities apprehended three individuals related to a case in Cedar Rapids. According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, at 1:30 this afternoon, the Iowa State Patrol was notified of a suspicious vehicle involved in retail thefts in the Cedar Rapids area. Authorities located the silver Dodge Charger driving south on I-380 near mile marker 4 and attempted to stop it. However, the vehicle did not stop and a chase ensued.
The chase, which included the Iowa State Patrol Air Wing, went south on Highway 218 to mile marker 80, the Highway 22 exit. The suspects pulled into the Kum & Go gas station and failed to comply with commands given by the trooper. The Dodge Charger then struck a Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy’s squad car and one shot was fired by the trooper.
Three individuals were taken into custody; two are being held at the Washington County Jail and the third is in the Linn County Jail. No injuries were reported and names of those involved are being withheld at this time.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Attorney’s Office, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Cedar Rapids Police Department assisted the Iowa State Patrol with the incident.
