IMS went to the 28th running of the English Valleys cross country meet, which has grown over the years and now includes runners from 18 schools. The course is 5 kilometers long and is known for its hilly course. On the boys side Kirby Shelter led the team once again placing eighth place in the course. His dive at the end of line put him in front of the runner from Louisa- Muscatine to secure that place. Levi Geyer passed eleven runners in the final mile to finish 23rd in a time of 19 minutes and 13 seconds. Highlands Evan Mahler of Highland won the individual title winning at a time of 17 minutes and three seconds. On the girls side Seniors Riley Schmieder and Renee Buckwalter both had great races in the girls race placing third and fourth respectfully. They had a close battle with Mid Prairie’s Abby Tornow who placed second. The IMS cross country team competes next at Mid- Prairie Golden Hawk Invitational at the golf course in Wellman September 23rd.
