Eye screenings and exams are recommended for certain ages before going back to school. Dr. Ben Williams of Modern Eye Care in Washington explains each child should have a full comprehensive exam before kindergarten which includes a dilated eye exam. This exam helps rule out pathology or learning deficits. Screenings can be conducted by family doctors and essentially it consits of reading a chart. Williams as well as Dr. Jim Courtney and Dr. Ryan Striegel perform screenings at Lincoln and Stewart elementary schools each fall.
