A big first inning put Mid-Prairie in too deep of a hole to recover Thursday night on the road at #7 Mt. Vernon as the Golden Hawks fell 11-1 in five innings. Mid-Prairie stranded two runners in the top half of the first only to see the Mustangs send 17 batters to the plate in the bottom half and score 10 runs on five hits and two Mid-Prairie errors. The inning was enough to chase Golden Hawk starter Adam Schrock after just two thirds of an inning.
Jackson Yoder came on in relief and pitched well giving up just one run on one hit over the final four and one third innings. The Golden Hawks got their lone run in the fifth when Carson Gingerich doubled to lead off the frame and came in to score on a pair of Mt. Vernon throwing errors. Mid-Prairie was led at the plate by Gingerich with his two hits and one run scored. Seth Eash, Spencer Shalla and Karson Duwa each had one hit. Mid-Prairie falls to 8-19 on the season, they host North Cedar in a makeup game Monday.
