Bunker Mill Bridge burned over the weekend and at this time it is believed to be arson, says Kalona Fire Chief Steve Yotty. He states that a fireman that lives in the area saw the smoke when he went out to milk. The historic bridge that crosses the English River had been part of plans for a bike trail in the area.

Yotty says at this time it is uncertain what will happen with the bridge regarding repairs.

He adds that there is no suspect at this time and that anyone with information is asked to contact local officials or the state fire marshal’s office. The state office can be reached at 515-725-6196.
