Washington took a crack at two top 1A teams on Saturday, but fell to both New Hampton and state-ranked Denver on the road.

The Demons first took on Class 1A’s New Hampton, and while the Demons took a 1-0 lead into the break, the Chickasaws came through for four goals in the second half, claiming a 4-1 win. Maya Bruty scored the lone goal for the Demons, with Angeline Anderson on the assist.

The Demons’ next opponent was the #4 team in Class 1A, Denver. The Cyclones, last year’s state runner-up, proved themselves to be deserving of their rank, quickly pulling away from Washington with three first-half goals, then finding four more in the second half.

In the game between Denver and New Hampton, Denver mercy-ruled its northern Iowa foe, defeating the Chickasaws 10-0. Washington drops to 4-6 for the season.
