The Washington and WACO girls’ track teams expanded their trophy case last Thursday, as the Demons and Warriors took first place in each class at the Ekstrand Relays in Wayland.

Washington placed first in Class A with 192 team points. Individual champions included Leighton Messinger in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.54 and in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:07.87, Jaedyn Moore in the 200m with a time of 26.10 and in the 400m with a time of 1:00.93, Iris Dahl in the 800m with a time of 2:20.87, and Jaslyn Villa in the long jump with a distance of 15’06.”

Five Demon relays also took home first place, including the sprint medley team of Leighton Salazar, Lillyn Magdefrau, Lauren Drahota, and Dahl with a time of 1:57.86, the 4x100m team of Villa, Moore, Salazar and Messinger with a time of 50.32, the 4x200m team of Emma Lins, Brynlee Flynn, Magdefrau and Sparkle Jones with a time of 1:14.06, the 4x100m shuttle hurdle team of Salazar, Magdefrau, Lins, and Kaleah Gerdes with a time of 1:14.06, and the 4x400m team of Drahota, Flynn, Sawyer Manz, and Dahl with a time of 4:18.14.

Second place Demons included Salazar in the 100m hurdles, Villa in the 200m, Drahota in the 400m, Flynn in the 400m hurdles, Emma Horak in the 1500m and 3000m, Taylor Miksch in the discus throw, and the distance medley team of Lins, Flynn, Manz, and Horak. Villa also placed third in the 100m.

Meanwhile, the WACO girls grabbed first place in Class B with 139 team points. Individual champions for the Warriors included Bren Graber in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.10, Macie Carter in the 1500m with a time of 5:24.45, and Abby Waterhouse in the discus throw with a distance of 89’02.

Four Warrior relay teams were also crowned champions, including the 4x100m shuttle hurdles team of Javan Davis, Madelyn Farmer, Courtney Waterhouse, and Graber with a time of 1:16.27, the 4x400m team of Graber, Josie Dykstra, Aliya Graber, and Carlee Lunsford with a time of 4:18.49, the 4x800m team of Dykstra, Carter, Graber, and Lunsford with a time of 10:06.07, and the distance medley team of Ryen Pepper, Taelyn Egli, Lunsford, and Dykstra with a time of 4:27.87.

Second place Warriors included Pepper in the 200m, Lunsford in the 800m, and Graber in the high jump. Third place Warriors included Dykstra in the 800m, Layla Wolf in the shot put, as well as three relay teams; Farmer, Davis, Natalie Wagler, and Morgan Leichty in the sprint medley, Pepper, Wagler, Leichty, and Egli in the 4x100m, and Wagler, Farmer, Leichty, and Davis in the 4x200m.

Highland placed second in Class B with 134 team points. Individual champions for the Huskies included Chloe Sexton in the shot put with a distance of 33’10,” the 4x100m relay team of Hailey Brun, Kamryn Fink, Kinzie Ruess, and Alexa Hahn with a time of 51.68, and the 4x200m relay team of Brun, Fink, Ruess and Hahn with a time of 1:50.76. Second place Huskies include Fink in the 100m, Maiya Singbeil in the 100m hurdles, Ella Schlabaugh in the 400m, Grace Bombei in the 3000m, Jillian Stransky in the discus throw, Hahn in the long jump, and the 4x100m shuttle hurdles team of Brena Hazelett, Sienna Bell, Marley VanSchoyck, and Singbeil. Finishing in third place were Hahn in the 100m, Bell in the 100m hurdles, Bombei in the 1500m, Reece Bonebrake in the discus throw, Ruess in the high jump, and the 4×400 relay team of Bell, Fink, Ruess, and Singbeil.

Sigourney placed fourth with 80 team points. Individual champions for the Savages included Izzy Heisdorffer in the 400m with a time of 1:11.62 and Addison Yates in the 3000m with a time of 11:22.88. Second place finishers included Brynn Clarahan in the 400m hurdles, Heisdorffer in the shot put, and the sprint medley relay team of Carmalita Cave, Bella deOliveira, Kia Montgomery, and Clarahan. Finishing in third place were deOliveira in the 200m and the distance medley team of Abyl McCulley, Kinsley Clubb, Clarahan, and Yates.

Lone Tree placed fifth with 52 team points. Ava Christofferson took first place in three different events, including in the 100m with a time of 13.17, in the 200m with a time of 27.13, and in the long jump with a distance of 17’00.” The team of Addison McCullough, Lindsay Baltazar, Addyson Eiben, and Christofferson placed second in the 4x100m relay. Lydia Hartman placed third in the 3000m.

Winfield-Mt. Union placed seventh with 27 team points. Quin Smith claimed the championship in the high jump at a height of 5’02.” Other top performers for the Wolves included third place finishes for Shaye Nelson in the 400m hurdles, and the 4×100 shuttle hurdle team of Josslyn Roen, Nelson, Lydia Meeker, and Kaelyn Townsley.
