“Find Your Joy,” is an invitation for people of all backgrounds to explore and discover what sparks joy in them at the library.

During National Library Week, April 19 through 25th, discover your library joy. Things you can do this week include stopping by your library and bringing someone with you. Help a friend sign up for a library card. Explore something new: a book, a program, a class, or a conversation. From storytimes to makerspaces, author talks to job support, libraries are places where curiosity and connection come to life.

One upcoming way for families to get involved at the Washington Public Library is the Summer Reading Program. There will be an open house for families to learn more about summer reading and the events that will be offered on April 30th at 5:30 p.m. Youth Services Librarian Jenisa Harris shares more about the Library, “We have so many great spaces for reading and learning. We have a welcoming kids area. The teens have a nice spot if they just want to get out of the heat and read, and it’s just beautiful to look out at the park and enjoy your time at the library. We want you to come, we kind of want to be the community hub. Feel free to come, everyone is welcome.”

National Library Week is an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities. The first National Library Week was observed in 1958.
