It was a season-opening success for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys soccer team, scoring 10-0 win in 65 minutes at Highland on Tuesday. The Golden Hawks scored in flurries, wasting no time, getting on the board in the first minute courtesy of Peyton Fox. In the seventh minute John Adam found the back of the net, and it was Fox again in the 10th minute to make it 3-0. A 15th minute Jaxson Gingerich goal made it 4-0. Kale Miller made 5-0 with a 32nd minute tally. Matthew Troyer took over from there, scoring the natural hat trick with a pair of 36th minute goals to send the Hawks to half up 7-0 and on the other side of break in the 45th minute to make it 8-0. Gingerich’s second goal pushed it to 9-0 and Luis Garcia put the finishing touches on the short win with a 65th minute goal. Following the match, Troyer talked with KCII Sports about the night.

Troyer said, “We were looking to play through-balls up the middle. Trying to split the defense. Tonight was my first hat trick actually. (My favorite goal was) definitely the header, the first one. (On that play) you just think, make contact, put it in the right spot. It felt great. I think we have improved a lot (from last year) as a team, we’re bonding and have a lot of chemistry.”

Along with Troyer’s three goals, Fox, and Gingerich each scored twice. It was two assists each for Troyer, Will Snider and Kale Miller. Jarrett Brackin led Highland with six saves in goal. Mid-Prairie is now 1-0 on the year and hosts rival Williamsburg tonight while the Huskies sink to 0-2.
