The National Association of Basketball Coaches named Lone Tree alum and Wake Forest head basketball coach Steve Forbes as the recipient of the Guardian of the Game Award for Advocacy.
The Guardians of the Game honors coaches and members of the NABC who demonstrate five core values: advocacy, leadership, service, education, and inclusion. For advocacy, NABC members must advocate for the best interests of student-athletes, coaches, and the game.
Forbes is now on his sixth season with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. The Lone Tree native was the Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year in 2022, and won the Southern Conference Tournament in consecutive seasons at East Tennessee State.
Forbes also was the head coach at Northwest Florida State in the National Junior College Athletic Association, where he led the Raiders to a 62-6 overall record over two seasons, getting the national runner-up finish in both years. He has 390 career wins as a head coach. He is set to be inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame later this year.
Forbes will be honored at the NABC Convention Welcome Reception on April 3rd.
