Mid-Prairie’s Kaden Kos gets to wear the black and gold on the football field one more time. Kos, a senior, has been selected to play for the South team in the 2026 Iowa Shrine Bowl.

During his time at Mid-Prairie Kos was a multi-time Class 2A All-District and All-State performer. He finished his Golden Hawk career with four school records including career receiving touchdowns, scoring catches in a single season, career tackles leader, and becoming the only Golden Hawk ever to post three seasons with at least 100 stops. In 2025, Kos piled up 80 tackles, 15 for loss and two interceptions, finishing 10th in 2A in total stops and ninth in tackles for loss. On offense, he had 718 all-purpose yards and 12 total touchdowns. He led Class 2A in special teams scores and was fifth in receiving touchdowns. He was named First-Team All-State in 2A by the Iowa Football Coaches Association, Iowa Grandstand Sports, the Iowa Print Sports Writer’s Association and Sports Illustrated. He spoke with KCII Sports about the opportunity to play in the Shrine Bowl and what the honor means.

Kos said, “It meant a lot to play at Mid-Prairie. My dad’s whole side of the family played there, all the records that they had, being able to wear the black and gold and represent the community. (Being selected to the Shrine Bowl) means a lot. It means all the hard work I put in really did help me succeed. It means a lot to be affiliated with the Shrine Bowl. Getting to go out and meet some of the kids from the Shriner’s Hospital and talk with them about their life, just because not everyone is as fortunate as me or other people. I’m excited to get back out and have one more week of practice and get to play one more game of football.”

The 54th Iowa Shrine Bowl All-Star Classic will be played July 25th at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.
