Auditor of State Rob Sand released his office’s financial and compliance audit report for the City of Sigourney for the year ending on June 30, 2025.

The city’s receipts totaled $4,039,088 for the year, a 4.5% decrease from the previous year. Disbursements for the year totaled $3,387,396, a 20.7% decrease. Both decreases were tied to the completion of capital projects started by the city in the prior fiscal year.

Sand’s office reported 12 findings related to the receipt and disbursement of taxpayer funds, addressing issues such as a lack of segregation of duties, a lack of timely review of utility reconciliations, disbursements exceeding budgeted amounts, compliance on revenue note covenants, business transactions which may represent a conflict of interest and questionable disbursements. Sand’s office provided the city with recommendations to address each of the findings. The city was allowed to respond to each finding and recommendation, with Sand’s office accepting all of the city’s responses.
