The Washington County Board of Supervisors approved an agreement between the county and Iowa Department of Transportation for Traffic Safety Improvement Project funding for Gingko Avenue improvements.
County Engineer Jacob Thorius shared more on the funds and project during this week’s board of supervisors meeting, “In the read file is a copy of the standard agreement that we have used before. Safety improvement funds, specifically Traffic Safety Improvement Program funds. (We) applied a year ago, over a year ago, seeking $500,000 to help put paved shoulders and rumble strips on the rest of the Wellman Road from Highway 92 to 170th Street. We were awarded $470,000 by the DOT in December. And this is the agreement to use those funds for our project.” The project will consist of paving road shoulders and adding rumble strips.
The next step will be to put the project out to bid. Once bids are received there will be a timeline in place for project completion. The intent of the Traffic Safety Improvement Program is to distribute funds for roadway safety improvements, traffic control devices, studies, and outreach.
