The Washington City Council approved some festive updates for Central Park at their Tuesday meeting. During the quarterly Parks Board meeting that was held on March 12th, the board considered a request from Main Street Washington for some decorative improvements in Central Park.

The first improvement is to install a permanent sign in the back of the bandstand. The “Downtown Washington” sign will be metal and provide a backdrop for the bandstand. The bandstand appears in many pictures and the sign will serve as a location marker for photographs.

The second request is to place several patriotic decorations in Central Park for the 4th of July and America’s 250th Celebration. The board was also updated on the Hometown Hero banners that will soon be appearing around the square. The Hometown Hero banners program serves as a tribute to veterans, military personnel, and the families who share deep ties to the Washington area. Each banner features a photo of the honoree, along with their name, branch of service, and years of military tenure or war that was served.

The council approved these requests unanimously.
