The Washington Downtown Streetscape Project is moving forward.

The Washington City Council heard an update in anticipation of the project being completed by this fall. The plans are currently being shared with potential bidders. Once bids are received and opened, the council will hold a public hearing to consider the bid and also approve the final plans and specifications.

The council has set the public hearing to be held during their April 7th meeting. The bids will be opened by city staff on March 31st. Once the bids are in, the staff will compile possible ways to close what will be a perceived funding gap in order to move forward with the project.

The engineers estimated cost of the project, which includes a five-block area of sidewalk improvements, is $1,695,102. The scope of work will include the removal of 1,254 yards of sidewalk, removal of 1,788 yards of roadway pavement, installation of 1,548 yards of new sidewalk, 1,310 yards of full-depth pavement patching, and 158 yards of driveways.

The sections that are planned to be updated include both sides of the 100 block of N. Marion, East side of the 200 block of S. Marion, East side of the 200 block of N. Iowa, East side of the 200 block of S. Iowa, and the West side of the 200 block of W. Washington.
