A blizzard moved through the area Sunday night into Monday causing white-out conditions and slick roadways.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to 25 calls for vehicles in ditches, including some calls of semi tractors jackknifing. Blowing and drifting snow made travel hazardous during the overnight hours, and frigid temperatures caused roads to freeze and become very slick in places.  As the storm moved across the state, multiple highways were categorized as completely snow covered with no travel advised and I-80 was closed for hours.

According to the National Weather Service, nearly 2.5 inches of snow fell in Washington. And a wind gust at the Washington airport was recorded at 53 miles per hour at 2:35 a.m. on Monday.

The National Weather Service of the Quad Cities is forecasting more spring temperatures as the week continues with the estimated high temperature on Saturday reaching 71 degrees in Washington.
