
Area girls’ track teams competed at the IATC Indoor Championships in Ames last weekend, with the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks taking home the championship in Class 2A.
Mid-Prairie took first place in 2A with 75 team points. Jeorgia Evans finished in first place in the 60m finals with a time of 7.87. Sophie Miller and Tessa Bombei finished seventh and eighth in the 60m hurdle finals with times of 9.98 and 10.08. Jovi Evans and Jeorgia Evans took second and fourth in the 200m with times of 25.56 and 26.38. In the 800m, Rachel Hostetler finished sixth with a time of 2:30.24 while Tessa Brokaw finished 11th with a time of 2:33.50. Kendal Landstrum finished fourth in the 1500m with 5:07.63. Brooklyn Stutzman finished second in the 3000m with a time of 10:54.33.
In the 800m sprint medley relay, the team of Bombei, Myli Hershberger, Graci Hershberger, and Kyrie Poll finished eighth with a time of 2:00.56. The team of Jovi Evans, Poll, Myli Hershberger, and Jeorgia Evans took second in the 4x100m relay with a time of 50.50. Sophie Miller, Jovi Evans, Olivia Schlabach, and Bombei took fourth in the 4x60m shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 41.12. In the 4x400m relay, Hostetler, Brokaw, Ruby Miller, and Poll finished sixth with a time of 4:22.88. And in the 4x800m, the team of Landstrum, Brokaw, Stutzman, and Hostetler finished first with a time of 9:59.06.
In the field events, Jeorgia Evans placed sixth in the long jump with a distance of 16’05”, while Ruby Miller placed 23rd with a distance of 13’00”. Bombei placed eighth in the high jump with a cleared height of 4’09”. Harper Pacha placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 36’05”.
Washington finished tenth in 3A with 22 team points. Jaedyn Moore placed seventh in the 60m finals with a time of 8.08. Leighton Messinger finished 18th in the 60m hurdle prelims with a time of 10.19. Moore finished fourth in the 200m with a time of 26.74. In the 400m, Lauren Drahota finished 20th with a time of 1:04.65. Emma Horak finished in 2:36.21 to take 23rd in the 800m. Iris Dahl finished second in the 1500m with a time of 4:54.66.
In the relays, Washington’s team of Jasyln Villa, Moore, Emma Lins, and Messinger finished 12th in the 4x100m relay with a time of 52.72. Messinger, Moore, Villa, and Dahl finished seventh in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:17.06. And the team of Drahota, Horak, Brynnlee Flynn, and Dahl took fourth in the 4x800m relay with a time of 10:20.35.
The Demons put forward two jumpers. Messinger finished ninth in the high jump by clearing 4’11”, and Villa placed 24th in the long jump with a distance of 14’02”.
WACO finished eighth in Class 1A with 25 team points. Bren Graber finished 22nd in the 60m hurdle prelims with a time of 10.85. Carlee Lunsford finished second in the 800m with a time of 2:29.54, while Josie Dykstra finished sixth with a time of 2:32.24. Macie Carter finished 15th in the 1500m with a time of 5:25.41.
In the relays, the team of Natalie Wagler, Javan Davis, Ryen Pepper, and Dykstra finished fifth in the 800m sprint medley with a time of 2:00.46. And in the 4x400m relay, the team of Dykstra, Graber, Pepper, and Lunsford took fourth with a time of 4:21.72.
Graber was the lone jumper for the Warriors, taking fourth in the high jump with a cleared height of 5’01.”
Hillcrest Academy finished eleventh in Class 1A with 22 team points. Rya Scott took first in the 60m with a time of 7.98. Rya Scott also took second in the 200m with a time of 26.63, while Adia Scott placed 18th with a time of 28.79. Marie Yoder placed 17th in the 1500m with a time of 5:40.84. In the 3000m, Siena Stanerson placed tenth with a time of 11:49.90, while Yoder placed 11th with a time of 12:05.54.
The Ravens relay team of Rya Scott, Adia Scott, Brynna Boshart, and Karinna Bourha took fifth in the 4x100m relay with a time of 52.88.
Niva Helmuth competed in two field events for the Ravens. Helmuth finished 26th in the high jump with a cleared height of 4’07”, and finished 17th in the shot put with a throw of 29’07”.
Columbus sent three girls to compete in 2A. Ella Howell competed in the 400m, finishing eighth with a time of 1:01.98. Iris Garza finished 11th in the 1500m with a time of 5:27.94. In the shot put, Isabella Forbes finished eighth with a throw of 33’08”.
