
A hearing has been scheduled for a Mt. Pleasant man charged with murder after a woman was fatally shot last weekend in Burlington.
According to the Burlington Police Department, officers responded at approximately 11:20 p.m. on Saturday, March 7th, to a bar located in the 1500 block of Agency Street for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a female with what appeared to be a single gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was later pronounced deceased.
Authorities arrested 22-year-old Kaysean Rice of Mt. Pleasant on a second-degree murder charge, a class B felony. He was also charged with reckless use of a firearm and intimidation with a dangerous weapon, both class C felonies. Rice is being held in the Des Moines County Jail on a $250,000 cash only bond. A preliminary hearing has been set for March 18th to be held in the Des Moines County Courthouse.
