
A WACO High School student died following a single-vehicle wreck on Friday afternoon. The WACO Community School District announced that senior Kyler Rugg passed away.
The school district stated that to support students and staff, additional counseling support services will be available across the entire district on Monday. Students and staff are encouraged to utilize the resources as needed.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the SUV was southbound on Franklin Avenue south of Trenton and failed to negotiate a curve at approximately 1:40 p.m. The vehicle rolled multiple times. Rugg was the driver of the vehicle and the only occupant. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. He was taken by helicopter to the University of Iowa Hospitals where he was pronounced deceased.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, the Henry County Ambulance, Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, and Medforce.
