
A Kalona woman was arrested in Johnson County Tuesday on outstanding Washington County warrants.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office arrested 49-year-old Veronica Gatlin of Kalona on two warrants. The first was for forgery, a class D felony, and possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense. The second warrant was for possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to court records, on February 2nd, Gatlin entered a liquor store in Iowa City to make a purchase, she was then viewed on camera allegedly taking a bottle concealing it on her person and then left the store. Video footage showed the theft.
Gatlin has multiple prior theft convictions. She was on probation for a felony forgery charge from a March 2025 case where she used a debit card totaling nearly $3,000. Her bond has been set at $45,000 and a detainer was placed with Johnson County.
