It’s been largely a struggle for the Winfield-Mt. Union girls basketball team this season, but the Wolves are finding their stride late in the season, first breaking their 18-game losing streak with a win over WACO, then making it two in a row with a big win over Cedar Valley Christian in the SEISC Shootout.

The Wolves had come close in previous games, but the Wolves finally got over the hump with a 40-34 win over WACO. Senior Madisen Kellogg had a huge night, almost outscoring the Warriors on her own with 33 points on 13/25 shooting. WMU followed up the win over the Warriors with a huge 60-15 win over Cedar Valley Christian in the ninth place game of the SEISC Shootout. Kellogg had another fantastic night, dropping 24 points, but junior Suttyn Schlee also dropped 20, picking up a season high.

With the regular season behind them, the road doesn’t get any easier, as WMU will get a third shot at SEISC-North powerhouse Highland in the first round of the Class 1A Region 6 tournament on Thursday. It’ll be a good chance for the Wolves to see how much the team has improved this season, with the Huskies taking both prior contests, 67-17 and 56-26.
