Washington quarterback Kael Williams will be heading to Drake to continue his football career this fall, making things official with a signing ceremony Wednesday morning.
In his season, Williams completed 58% of his passes for 798 yards and four touchdowns. On the ground, Williams rushed for 1137 yards and 17 touchdowns. He’s a tri-sport athlete, also competing in basketball and track and field. Williams says his future coaches at Drake encouraged him to continue playing multiple sports.
“No, they’re actually really happy with it. Early in my recruiting process, they were actually looking at my track times and they were, you know, looking at that stuff. So they love it, and they obviously are a big part of the Drake Relays up there. They love watching it and they think it’s awesome. So I’ll be able to connect with them there.”
Williams credits the Demon football program for a lot of his development, saying he saw the program as a community-wide team that encouraged brotherhood and family beyond football. He says he saw a lot of that with the Drake football program as well. Williams will play running back for the Bulldogs under head coach Joe Woodley. The Bulldogs finished 8-4 last season and made the FCS playoffs, where they lost in the first round to playoffs mainstay South Dakota.
Before he takes the field at Drake, however, Williams will next compete at the Iowa Shrine Bowl to be played at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls on July 25. The game features some of the best outgoing senior talent from around the state.
