The Sigourney boys and girls basketball teams are both in action Thursday on KCII when they host Moravia.

The Sigourney boys are 14-4 on the year and 12-3 in the South Iowa Cedar League after a 76-34 win at home Tuesday over HLV. This year the Savages score 66 points per game and give up 45 on 46% shooting, 33% from three and 62% at the line with 32 rebounds, 16 assists, 10 steals and 11 turnovers per game. Individually, John Berg leads at 16 points and nine boards per game. Ike Molyneux is best at five assists and two steals per night.

Moravia is 14-6 this season and 8-1 in the Bluegrass Conference after dropping their Conference Tournament Championship game to Ankeny Christian 72-47 last time out. This year the Mohawks score 64 points per game and give up 50, shooting 42% from the floor 31% from three and 58% at the line with 34 rebounds, 14 assists, nine steals and 11 turnovers per game. Individually, Casen Woodward’s 16 points, Declan DeJong’s 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals all lead. This week, Sigourney head coach Mitch Eslick talked about his team’s keys today and the rest of the year. “Tonight will be a really good test for us, they’re a nice team. I watched them the last couple of days. They have five really good players. They’re balanced and have a lot of experience. These are the kind of games you want going into the tournament.”

The Savages have won the last four in the series including 70-60 last year.

The Sigourney girls are 13-6 this year, 10-5 in the SICL after handling HLV 67-32 Tuesday. This year the Savages score 53 points per game and give up 44 on 30% shooting 24% from three and 57% at the line with 30 rebounds, 15 steals, 10 assists and 12 turnovers per game. Individually, Brynn Clarahan is at 22 point, eight rebounds, eight steals and four assists per game to lead.

Moravia is 9-10 this year, 7-1, leading the Bluegrass Conference after a 60-40 win over Diagonal this week. The Mohawks score 44 per game and give up 40 on 31% shooting, 15% from three and 47% at the line with 35 rebounds, 13 steals, 10 assists and 21 turnovers per game. Individually, Leah DeJong scores 16 per game with four steals and three assists to lead. Jaime Self averages nine boards per game. This week, Sigourney head coach Kaylee Weber talked with KCII Sports about what she wants to see from her team Thursday and beyond. “Play solid defense. We can’t take off any possessions. We’re working on some new things at practice and they’re working hard to put them in late. We have no easy late coming up, tonight, Monday and Tuesday those are all big games. We have to play hard and play together.”

Sigourney has won the last two between these programs including 74-35 a season ago.
