
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams came up winners at home against the Wilton Beavers in a conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk girls rolled to an 81-18 win. The Hawks had the game in a stranglehold from the onset, leading 30-5 after one and 59-8 at half. The Golden Hawks outscored the Beavers 22-10 after halftime. Junior Sophia Puttmann joined the KCII Postgame Show live to talk about her night and the win. “I feel like I really try to play with my team in my role and do what I know how to do. Do the things that I have been working on in practice. Cheering each other and knowing that I am going to be my best and so are we, when we’re working together as a team.”
The Hawks shot 51% from the floor with 36 rebounds, 26 assists, 25 steals and just three turnovers. Five got to double figures, led by 17 points from Morgyn Bender with eight steals. Brooklyn Schneider scored 13, Jovi Evans 11 and Jeorgia Evans and Myli Hershberger 10 points each. The win moved Mid-Prairie to 12-5 on the year and 9-2 in conference. Wilton dropped to 1-14 and remains winless in conference.
The Mid-Prairie boys handled Wilton 68-54. The Golden Hawks led 16-7 after one and were still up eight at the break at 32-24. A 22 point third quarter stretched the lead 16 and helped the Hawks finish the win. Mid-Prairie shot 46% with eight made threes, with 31 rebounds, 12 assists and forced 15 turnovers. Golden Hawk Bo Pennington joined the KCII Postgame Show to talk about his role and the win. “It’s about bringing the energy when the team is down or, when we need a little spark, I try to do my part, bringing in some assists or maybe a few buckets. Overall, it’s about bringing energy off the bench.”
Bryce Henry led with 24 points, Brooks Weber and Hudson Ehrenfelt each had 10 points. Oaklan Jirak scored 30 points for the Beavers. Mid-Prairie was 11-5 with the win, 9-3 in conference. Wilton dropped to 11-6 and 7-4 respectively.
