The Sigourney-Keota boys wrestling team spent Saturday in Marengo for the South Iowa Cedar League Championship meet. SK was fourth as a group with 122.5 points. The Tigers were team winners on their home mat with 178 points.
Highlight of the day for SK was heavyweight Owen Menke winning the individual title. Menke’s championship match win was a 6-1 decision over Teagan Dybevik of Colfax-Mingo. This week, SK head coach Cory Van den Huevel talked about Menke’s championship run. “In his finals match he put together two excellent take downs. Very high level to seal the deal against a pretty quality kid. He competed well throughout the day and the season. I’m excited to see what he can do in the postseason.”
The Savages had two other finalists with Ryker Van den Huevel at 138lbs and Dillon Menke at 165lbs. Luke Flynn finished third at 150lbs while Jacob Libe at 144, Nash Baker at 190 and Brayden Sines at 215 were all fourth.
