
The Highland Huskies boys and girls basketball teams packed their brooms for Letts Monday sweeping a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader from the home Falcons.
The Highland girls won an all-timer, beating Louisa-Muscatine 63-59 in double OT. The Huskies led 11-9 after one and were on top 28-23 at half. L-M cut it to three going to the fourth and tied the game at 50 at the end of the regulation. Four extra minutes decided nothing with the teams even at 56 going to double OT. Highland locked in to win the second extra period 7-3 and take the victory. The Huskies shot 36% on the night with 56 rebounds, 20 steals and 18 assists. Kamryn Fink had 20/20 vision with a double double of 28 points, 24 rebounds and eight steals. Hailey Bruns finished with 10 points. Kinzie Ruess added 10 boards and Emersyn Schultz seven assists. Highland is 19-2 after the win and closes out a perfect Southeast Iowa Superconference North Division title season for the first time in school history at 16-0. L-M finishes conference play at 10-6 and 12-7 overall.
The Highland boys were a 74-65 winner. The Huskies led 15-10 after one and 37-25 at half. The Falcons got back into the contest with a 21-10 run in the third, but the Huskies heated up down the stretch, with a 27 point fourth quarter to hold off the Falcons and get the win. Highland shot 43% and hit a dozen threes with 29 rebounds, 11 steals and six assists. Four Huskies got to double figures with Kyler Fink’s 23 points the leader with a pair of assists. Landon Roling scored 20, Bryce Hazelett had 17 with five steals, Presten Smith added a dozen points and Jesse Thompson 10 rebounds. Highland is 3-16 with the win, 3-12 in the Superconference while L-M drops to 3-15 and 2-13 respectively.
