The Sigourney girls basketball team will accept a challenge from non-conference foe and Southeast Iowa Superconference North division champion Highland this afternoon in a game you can hear on KCII.

The Sigourney girls are 12-5 overall, 9-5 in the South Iowa Cedar League after a rivalry win against Keota last night 60-54. Brynn Clarahan scored a game-high 25 to lead the Savages, while Bailey and Becca Gretter combined for 22. This season, Sigourney scores 51 points per game and gives up 44, shooting 30% from the field, 25% from three and 57% at the line, with over nine assists and 14 steals per game, both top five marks in the SICL. Individually, Brynn Clarahan is the state’s leader with nearly eight steals per game, scoring a conference-high 22 points a night.

Highland is 17-2 on the year, one win shy of completing an unbeaten Southeast Iowa Superconference North division championship campaign. They took down Pekin last night on Senior Night 59-33 behind 14 points each from Kamryn Fink and Hailey Brun. On the year, Highland scores 55 points per game and gives up 32, shooting 40% from the field, 25% from deep and 55% from the foul line. Their 42 rebounds are second most as a team in the state. Individually, Fink’s six assists per game are third most in Class 1A.

Sigourney is unbeaten through three games with Highland that date back to 2023 in the Varsity Bound era. The latest matchup came last year in a 53-35 Sigourney win.
