The Lone Tree Lions battled Louisa-Muscatine for their one and only doubleheader this week, and picked up a split after two close games. The girls defeated the Lions 50-46, and the boys fell 67-66.
In the girls’ game, Lone Tree fell behind 14-12 after the first, but forced a 27-27 tie heading into halftime. A big 17-5 third quarter gave the Lions some comfort, but the Falcons made it interesting, closing the gap with a 14-6 fourth. However, Lone Tree was able to hang on for the 4-point victory.
Finley Jacque led the Lions with 18 points, while Delanie Graap added 13. Addi Parizek and Abby Zaruba each picked up double-digits in the rebounding category.
The Lone Tree boys saw no separation in their game against Louisa-Muscatine. All four quarters were extremely close. The Lions led after the first, 17-16, but the Falcons took a 36-35 lead into the half after winning the second quarter 20-18, the only quarter to be decided by more than a single point. Louisa-Muscatine extended their lead to 2 with an 11-10 third quarter. Lone Tree gave it a good shot in the final quarter, but ultimately fell one point short, 67-66.
Lone Tree’s girls improve to 13-6, and 11-4 in the SEISC-North, while the boys fall to 4-13 and 2-12 in conference. Both teams will compete at home next Tuesday, facing off against Hillcrest Academy.
