It was a business trip Tuesday night for the Keota Eagle boys and girls basketball teams in a South Iowa Cedar League doubleheader at Colfax-Mingo. The girls opened the night with a 54-28 win. Keota started the game with a 16-6 run that spanned the full first quarter, and led 27-16 at the break. After extending the lead to 14 in third, the Eagles put the game away with a 17-5 run that took the entire fourth period. Keota out shot Colfax-Mingo 29-27%, won rebounding 48-17, assists 9-5, and steals 12-4. An Eagle trio reached double figures led by a 21 point night with five steals and three assists for Cameron Haifley. Elyse Lyle had a 12 point, 14 rebound double double and Emily Conger chipped in 11 points. Blain Houseman led the Tigerhawks with nine points. The win pushes Keota to 13-4 while the Tigerhawks fall to 5-12.

The visitors were again the winner in the nightcap with the Eagles taking a 64-41 boys victory. First and second quarter runs of 18-6 and 16-7 put Keota up 34-13 at the break and shut the lights out early on the Tigerhawks as the Eagles cruised playing even in the second half for the win. Keota out shot Colfax-Mingo 46-30%, won rebounds 36-35, assists 17-8, steals 8-7 and turnovers 15-11. The Eagles got three to double figures with Chase Haifley’s 24 points and eight assists top team numbers. Porter Cave had 16 points and Jackson Vittetoe a dozen. Keota is 12-4 with the win while the Tigerhawks drop to 3-14.
