Members of the Washington Demons High School speech team are heading to state. 

On Saturday, the Washington High School large group speech team had their first performances of the season. The district competition was held in Wapello and multiple Washington groups will be moving on to state. For the first time in three years, the TV news broadcast group is advancing to state. This ensemble features Isobel Murphy, Maya Bruty, Iris Dahl, Callie Schiebel, and Angeline Anderson. Other groups heading to state include Luna Morris and Quintyn Garibay with their ensemble acting piece, as well as Elizabeth Kennedy, Lyric Hotle, and Samuel Kaye with their ensemble piece. The Musical Theater group of Garibay, Tyler Burroughs, and Skylin Stoutner are also going to the state competition. 

The state large group speech competition will be held on February 7th at Clear Creek High School. 

You can catch all of these acts on February 5th during the Large Group Speech Showcase beginning at 7 p.m. in the Washington High School Performing Arts Center. There is no charge for this event. The evening will feature all of the 2026 large group speech acts, including: one act, TV News, short film, musical theater, and ensemble acting.
