Leadership changes have been announced for the Columbus Community School District.
In a release shared by school board president Todd Heck, it was announced that there will be an interim superintendent for the remainder of the 2025–2026 school year. The school board selected Jeff Maeder to serve as the interim superintendent. Maeder will be available in the district two days per week. Maeder previously served as Superintendent at Winfield-Mount Union and Pekin school districts.
The school board also recently approved a superintendent sharing agreement for the 2026–2027 school year. Columbus Community Schools will be in a 50/50 superintendent sharing agreement with Winfield-Mount Union Community School District next school year. They reached out to several neighboring districts to explore options, and WMU was the only district able to partner with the district for a shared arrangement.
WMU’s current superintendent is Karinda Wahls. She currently serves as both a principal and superintendent for the Wolves.
The Columbus school board will be sharing more information on the sharing agreement in the future.
