Winfield-Mt. Union hosted Central Lee on Thursday, looking to defend their home floor. Unfortunately for the Wolves, they weren’t able to do so, with the girls losing 48-41 and the boys losing 70-44.
The girls had the lead heading into the fourth quarter, but were outscored 15-6 in the final eight minutes to miss out on their second win of the season. Senior Madisen Kellogg scored 25 points in defeat, going 8-of-12 from the field. Suttyn Schlee also added 11 with three triples. The Hawks were led by Kenna Sandoval’s 18, and Nora Lampe’s 14. WMU falls to 1-16 on the season.
The boys fell behind 28-13 at the half, but a 25-13 third quarter sealed the deal. The Wolves just couldn’t muster enough offense to challenge the Hawks, who have now won three straight by double-digits. Max Edwards and Isaac Egli had 15 and 14 a piece. Central Lee’s Kaden Swan and Carson Morrison had 14 and 12. WMU’s boys drop to 10-5 for the year.
Winfield-Mt. Union will host again this Friday, taking on Wapello. Last time out, the girls suffered a 53-18 defeat, while the boys won 38-33.
