It’s a Monday night Area Game of the Week non-conference battle for the Keota Eagle boys basketball team, as they hit the road to Letts to take on the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons on the KCII3 Stream.
The Eagles arrive 11-4 on the year, 7-4 in the South Iowa Cedar League after a homecoming win last Thursday over HLV 62-33. Porter Cave led three Keota scorers in double figures with 20 points. Chase Haifley and Blake Baker had 13 and 11 points to follow. This season, Keota scores 61 points per game and gives up 47, shooting 42% from the field, 30% from deep and 52% at the line, with top five marks as a bunch in the SICL with 31 rebounds, 17 assists and 10 steals per game. Individually, Jackson Vittetoe scores 15 a night to pace the Eagles, while he and Ayden Galindo pull down over seven boards per game.
Louisa-Muscatine is 2-13, 1-11 in the north division of the Southeast Iowa Superconference. Their lone outcome of last week was a 72-41 defeat on the road to Pekin. Oscar Cline piled up a double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds, with Owen Klocksiem collecting an additional 10 boards. On the year, the Falcons score 49 points per game and give up 63, shooting 37% from the floor, 25% from three and 40% at the line. They are top five in the state as a team with over seven blocks and 40 rebounds per game. The individual leader is Cline, currently the best in the Superconference North with 22 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks a night.
Keota head coach Dan Stout explains what his team is doing well heading into the matchup in Letts.
“We’ve got good shooters that can knock the ball down. Hit the three. We’ve got Ayden Galindo inside. He’s just been getting better. He’s really demanding the ball. He’s really getting a lot more confidence,” Stout said. “We need to keep ourselves spread out, pass the ball around and against the zone—you make that zone shift two or three times, you’ll get an easy basket.”
In the Varsity Bound era, the Eagles are unbeaten through four matchups with the Falcons. Keota took the most recent contest in 2024 84-46.
