The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams swept away the West Liberty Comets Thursday in a River Valley Conference doubleheader in Wellman. The boys were a 72-51 winner. The Hawks launched out to a 19-9 lead after one and were up 36-22 at half. Mid-Prairie won the second half 46-29 to take the win. Mid-Prairie out shot the Comets 40-39%, hitting 13 threes, winning assists 17-14, turnovers 18-8, and posting 13 steals. Bryce Henry led the Hawks with a 24 point, 10 rebound double double. Brooks Weber scored 14, Tristan Koller had 11 points, seven assists and five steals. Devin Mericle led West Liberty with 17 points. The Golden Hawks are 9-4 after the win, the Comets are 3-9.

The girls game was a Golden Hawk victory 61-37. After a tight first quarter and 13-10 Mid-Prairie lead, the Hawks turned it up in the second and third including runs of 18-2 and 20-7 to pull away for the win. The Golden Hawks shot 39% from the floor with 38 rebounds, 17 assists, and 15 steals. Morgyn Bender led the scoring with 13 points. Jeorgia Evans had a 12 point, 10 rebound double double with six assists and four steals. The Hawks are 9-5 on the year and West Liberty is 3-12.

The Mid-Prairie boys and girls will both travel to Mount Pleasant tonight for a non-conference doubleheader with the Panthers. The Golden Hawk girls average 57 points per game, giving up 43 on 39% shooting, 31% from three, 35 rebounds, 17 steals, 16 assists and 19 turnovers per game. Individual leaders are Bender at 14 points and five rebounds, Jeorgia Evans four steals and Katelyn Harland three assists per game. Mount Pleasant is 3-10 on the year and winless in the Southeast Conference, dropping a 58-42 decision at Danville last time out. This season, the Panthers score 37 and give up 48 per night on 34% shooting, 19% from three and 52% at the line with 24 rebounds, six assists and steals and 14 turnovers per game. Individually, Abby Carthey scores seven with two assists per game and Paityn Ensminger has five boards per game. The Hawks are 3-2 all-time against the Panthers including a 66-30 win last year.

The Golden Hawk boys score 60 per game on 41% shooting, 32% from three and 61% at the line with 31 rebounds, 11 assists, nine steals and 14 turnovers per game. Bryce Henry is the leader at 18 points and eight rebounds per game. Brooks Weber’s four assists and three steals per night lead. Mount Pleasant is 5-7 on the year, 3-4 in conference after a win at Fort Madison in overtime 63-61. The Panthers score 53 points per game on 41% shooting, 31% from three and 55% at the line with 35 rebounds, 12 assists, four steals and 17 turnovers per night. Noah Lange is the leader at 14 points per game. Isaiah Lange has eight rebounds and Brody Clark two assists. Mount Pleasant has won 14 of the 21 in this series with Mid-Prairie taking last year’s contest 68-54.
