Alumni of the Lone Tree band program are being invited back to participate in a special pep band alumni night next week.

On February 3rd, alumni are invited to perform alongside current Lone Tree students during the Lions’ varsity basketball games against Hillcrest Academy. A practice session will be held this Tuesday, January 27th, to help get alumni up to speed.

Lone Tree band director Jess Cowan says the idea came from the director before her, but she decided to continue the tradition. She says a major reason for doing so is that it helps with the band’s overall sound, “When I came here, I had literally eight players in my high school band, which is not a lot. So, having the alumni join us really gives us more power and playing, and more sound.”

The band will perform the school’s fight song and the National Anthem, alongside typical pep band favorites such as “Dancing Queen,” “Mama Mia,” “All-Star,” “Seven Nation Army,” and more. After alumni night, the band will begin preparing for its solo and ensemble festival, held at Lone Tree on March 5th.

Alumni interested in performing with the pep band can email Cowan to receive music, or to request an instrument if needed.
