
According to the US Drought Monitor, southeast Iowa’s soil remains abnormally dry, with 43% of the state experiencing abnormally dry conditions, and 56% experiencing no drought.
As of January 20th, all of Washington County is abnormally dry. Compared to a year ago, 90% of the county was abnormally dry, and 10% had no drought.
Keokuk, Louisa, Johnson, Iowa, Henry and Jefferson counties are also experiencing abnormally dry conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, so far this month Washington has observed four-tenths of an inch of precipitation, approximately half an inch below the normal amount.
