The Washington FFA chapter took eight students for a day of learning at the Legislative Symposium held in Des Moines at the Iowa Capitol.
Washington Chapter Treasurer Presley Hora shared insight about their time on the hill, “We traveled to the Capitol and met with our Senator and Representative, we talked with them and met with all of the county chapters as well, because we all do it together. They answered some questions, we learned a little bit more. So overall it was a really good experience that we got to go to.”
The Legislative Symposium is designed to build character and promote citizenship, volunteerism and patriotism. More than 700 members from 100 FFA Chapters across the state of Iowa gathered to learn about the legislative process, discuss agricultural issues and advocate for Agricultural Education and FFA.
Students heard presentations from Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Vice President Brian Feldpausch, and Jake Swanson with High Yield Strategies.
