The Hillcrest Academy Raven boys and girls basketball teams made a mid-week trip to Wapello to take on the Indians and Arrows. The Raven boys stayed perfect in the Southeast Iowa Superconference with a 68-38 win. It was a 16-11 Hillcrest lead after one, then the Ravens exploded for a 20-4 run that lasted the entire second period to go on top 36-15 at the break. 19-10 in the third quarter put Hillcrest up comfortably at 55-25 going to the fourth. The Ravens out shot the Indians 55-31%, won rebounds 38-34, assists 21-5, and steals 12-10. Gibson Scott scored a game high 22 points and pulled in nine boards. Kale Bailey scored 19, Lincoln Miller 11 and Rowan Miller went double double with 11 points and 11 assists. Justyn Faulkner led Wapello with 13 points and seven rebounds. The Ravens improved to 13-1 with the win as Wapello dropped to 3-12.
The girls game was tight and saw the Arrows hold off Hillcrest 44-42. Wapello led 8-7 after the first, but a 12-8 second frame had the Ravens out front 19-16 at the break. The third quarter was dominated by defense with Wapello winning 9-4, to lead 25-23 entering the fourth. Each side put up 19 points in the final period. The Arrows out shot the Ravens 39-31%. Hillcrest won the boards 34-27 and assists 14-10. Steals belonged to the Arrows 13-10 and turnovers 19-15. Macey Kuntz led Wapello with 19 points. Annaka Greiner had 15 points and eight boards, Taeya Wagner six assists. Brynna Boshart led the Hillcrest offense with 11 points, Niva Helmuth had eight assists and Ruth Witthoft seven rebounds. Wapello was 9-7 with the win as the Ravens slid to 4-11.
