Life on the road was tough on the Keota Eagle boys and girls basketball teams last week as they each were handed a loss at English Valleys, snapping their respective winning streaks. The Eagle girls opened the evening with a 52-48 loss. Keota led 9-5 after one quarter and things were even at 22 at half. EV took the lead to the fourth at 38-36 and made enough plays down the stretch to keep the Eagles at arms length. Keota out shot the Bears 49-31%. Each team had 22 rebounds and 10 assists. The Bears won turnovers 21-11. Addison Achenbach led EV with 15 points, Anna Luers had 13 and Aubrey Achenbach 11. Cameron Haifley got to double figures for Keota with 15 points. Elyse Lyle led with six rebounds and Emily Conger had four assists. The loss snapped the Eagles five game winning streak and dropped them to 11-4. The Bears were 9-4.
In the boys contest, the Eagles came up short 55-49. Things were tied at 17 after the first eight minutes and the Bears led 28-27 at half. EV won the third 10-8 and the fourth 17-14 to edge Keota in the win. The Bears out shot the Eagles 42-39%, winning the glass 33-29, and assists 15-12. Keota took turnovers 17-13. Kane Axmear’s 20 points for EV were a game high. Christian Tripses added 18. Ayden Galindo went double double for Keota with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Jackson Vittetoe had a 16 point game. Chase Haifley finished with five assists. The Eagles were 9-4 after the loss and the Bears improved to 8-5.
