
The Hillcrest Academy Raven and WACO Warrior boys and girls basketball teams are ready for act two on the court tonight when they face-off in Kalona in the KCII Area Game of the Week. The Hillcrest boys are 13-1 on the year, 12-0 on top of the Southeast Iowa Superconference North Division, and winners of three straight, after pounding Wapello Tuesday 68-38. This year, the Ravens score 64 points per game and give up 45 on 49% shooting, 34% from three and 58% at the line with 31 rebounds, 17 assists, 11 steals and 14 turnovers per game. Individually, Kale Bailey is the leader at 18 points per night, Rowan Miller leads the floor game with seven assists and three steals per game and Gibson Scott pulls down seven boards per night.
WACO is 8-7 on the year and 8-3 in the Superconference. They were beaten 53-42 at Sigourney Thursday. This year, the Warriors score 55 points per game and give up 51 on 41% shooting, 34% from three and 66% at the line with 29 rebounds, 14 assists, nine steals and 13 turnovers per game. Individual leaders are Holden Hughes with 16 points and eight boards per game, Hayden Shelman has three assists and two steals per game. These two teams met in December in Wayland with the Ravens winning 55-44.
The girls contest features a Raven team at 4-11 on the year and 2-10 in the Superconference North after a tough 44-42 loss at Wapello Tuesday. This year, the Ravens average 37 points and give up 48 per game on 30% shooting, 23% from three and 38% at the line with 35 rebounds, 11 steals, 10 assists and 29 turnovers per game. Individually, Claire Withrow has a team best 11 points per game, Niva Helmuth eight rebounds and three steals and Brynna Boshart two assists.
WACO is 7-9 on the year and 4-8 in conference after a Thursday road loss at Sigourney. This year the Warriors score 47 points per game and give up 43 on 33% shooting, 27% from three and 41% from the line with 35 rebounds, 12 steals, 11 assists and 18 turnovers per game. Individually, Brenna Graber’s 12 points, three assists and three steals per night are best along with Madelyn Farmer’s eight rebounds per game. Earlier this season the Warriors beat the Ravens 45-19.
