The Sigourney-Keota girls wrestling team went up against a talented field of large school athletes Saturday at the Waukee Northwest Invitational. The Savages were 14th of 24 schools with their score of 58 points. Raccoon River-Northwest were team champs with 248 points. Top placers individually were Kia Montgomery at 125lbs and Karley Greiner at 155lbs both sixth. This week, head coach Trevor Weeks joined the KCII PM Sports Page to talk about his top finishers. “Kia Montgomery is a really solid wrestler and will continue in my mind to make the record books at Sigourney. She had some stiff competition at this tournament. I think she wrestled well. With Karley Greiner, she spends the majority of time with basketball (as a dual sport athlete) so at times it’s hard to get in the room and work on your craft, then you’re thrown into a tough field, but she takes it stride and does well.”
Izzy Heisdorffer at 140lbs was seventh and Amelia Phillips at 115lbs took eighth.
