The Kalona, Riverside, and Wellman Fire Departments were called to assist at a chicken facility fire Monday night north of Riverside. 

At 10:04 p.m. Washington County Communications received a call for aid from Johnson County officials for a chicken facility on fire. The incident was located at 3027 540th Street. Authorities requested assistance with a large coop fire. The Kalona, Riverside, and Wellman Fire Departments went to assist. The Wellman Fire Department was cancelled en route to the scene. The fire was under control within an hour of the call.  

Also assisting at the scene was the Hills Fire Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, Kalona QRS, and the University of Iowa EMS.
