The Washington Demons will try their luck in non-conference action tonight, with the girls and boys teams both on the road at Tipton tonight for a doubleheader you can hear on KCII.

The Demon girls come into tonight’s contest at 8-5 overall, and are coming off of a solid 43-21 win over Oskaloosa on Saturday. However, tonight’s matchup will not be an easy one, with the Tipton girls coming in at 12-1 while being state-ranked in Class 3A. The Tigers are led by junior Jordyn Schmidt, who leads the team in both scoring (12.5 PPG) and rebounding (9.1 RPG). Freshman Zane Ehler has produced in her first varsity season, picking up 9 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game as well.

Washington continues to be lead by Adalyn Long’s 15.3 points per game, with Reagan Miller and Leighton Messinger providing support. The Demons will hope to collect offensive output from several players in a bid to knock off a state-ranked team in Tipton. Defensively, the Demons are still only allowing 40 points per game, but only score 44 a game themselves.

The late-night matchup will see the 7-4 Demon boys take on a Tipton team that is yet to pick up a win this season. Washington is coming off a 70-50 loss to Keokuk last Friday, their second loss in a row. The Demons’ strength continues to lie in their strong starting five, as Rajan Roth, Drew Conrad, Nic Stone, and Kael Williams continue to put up balanced numbers across the board. Washington will also look to build off its strong guard play, while also trying to stem its weaknesses in the post.

Tipton’s boys are 0-11 for the season, and score an average of 38.6 points per game while allowing 67.1 points per game, a 28.5 point differential. Junior Oakley Kruse leads the Tigers with 14.1 points per game. This could be a contest for Washington to capitalize on crashing the boards and minimizing possessions, as Tipton has struggled on the boards this season, pulling down only 19.6 rebounds per game.

Head coach Collin Stark spoke after the Keokuk game on Friday. He said they’d take the weekend to look at not only the Tigers, but a future non-conference opponent in Carlisle as well. “Both teams will be a good test for us. Like I said, over the weekend, we’ll really dive in more to film and make sure we’re ready to go.”

Tonight’s doubleheader begins with the Washington Demon pregame show at 5:30 p.m. followed by the girls tip-off at 6. You can listen in on FM106.1, the KCII1 app, or kciiradio.com.
